Sierra Sue II, lovingly restored by Aircorps Aviation in Bemidji Minnesota. It is reportedly one of the most authentically restored Mustangs in the world, and a combat veteran to boot! She served in the 9th Air Force over Europe with 402nd Fighter Squadron, 370th FG in 1945. Lt. Bob Bohna was her regular pilot. (photo by Leonardo Correa Luna)

For those interested in attending a great ‘little’ air show this coming weekend, you should head to Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, where AirExpo 2015 is set to be held (July 11th/12th, 2015). The non-profit, aviation history and preservation group Wings of the North is organizing the event which is expecting to host more than forty aircraft and fifty aviation dignitaries.

A good number of warbirds are scheduled to attend including Paul Ehlen’s recently-restored P-51D Mustang Sierra Sue II making her air show debut, the Yankee Air Museum’s B-17G Flying Fortress Yankee Lady and the Reno Air Race Hawker Sea Fury Saw Bones as well as several other military and vintage civil aeroplanes. A few of the aircraft present, including Yankee Lady. will also be available for rides. Yankee Lady will also be flying several WWII combat veterans in a special ride before the public at 9:00am on Saturday July 11th. Be there to welcome them home from their ‘Mission”… The veterans will be on hand later for conversation with the general public to answer questions and recount their stories of what it was like to serve and fight in WWII.

AirExpo will be holding their 12th Annual ‘Evening With Eagles’ dinner between 5:30 and 11:00pm on July 11th. Legendary aviators and astronauts will be on hand, such as Doolittle Raider Lt.Col.Dick Cole, Space Shuttle Commander Curt Brown, Women’s Airforce Service Pilot Liz Strohfus and others. While a pre-purchased ticket is required to attend ‘Evening With Eagles’ (click HERE to get yours), these extraordinary men and women will be on hand for public interaction on both show days as well, and featured in daily symposia.

While you will be able to get tickets at the gate for AirExpo 2015, if you act quickly, you can get them at a reduced rate online HERE. MAKE SURE to use the code Save50 during checkout to receive the discounted fare. Parking is free at the air show site.
