Warbirds Over Wanaka is operated by a charitable Community Trust. Our Mission is ‘To educate through the celebration and promotion of aviation past and present.’ 2018 marks the 30th Anniversary of this iconic internationally renowned Airshow. We are recreating some of the most popular acts of the past three decades.

AIRSHOW PROGRAMME 2018

Friday 30th March – Practice Day
Gates open at 7.30am for all three days. Check out the ground exhibits while Warbirds practice overhead. Visit the aircraft for sale, static aircraft displays, aviation trade stands, market stalls and then sample some of the great food and beverages on offer.

Lake Event
On Friday at the Wanaka lakefront, join the Wanaka community for our free lakeside Airshow. We are celebrating helicopters big and small with a return visit by the mighty Catalina Flying Boat.

Saturday 31st March and Sunday 1st April – Airshow days
Static aircraft displays, aviation trade stands, market stalls, merchandise and food and beverage vendors are operational. The Airshow begins at 10.00am with non-stop action right through to the fiery finale at 4.00pm.

In the air you will see some of the world’s most iconic Warbird aircraft plus more modern military machines, aerobatics, skydiving, sport aircraft and much more. The aerial action is backed by world-class pyrotechnics while the military re-enactor group and Frankie Singers entertain on the ground.

AIRCRAFT COMING
Crowd favourites the Spitfire, Corsair, P40 Kittyhawk, P51 Mustang and Catalina will be on the flightline along with some other very special aircraft. Sport aircraft will show off their unique handling abilities.

Air Forces from around the region include the French from Noumea and the RNZAF’s new Black Falcons putting on a full aerobatic display. Aircraft include fighter jets, military transport and military helicopters.

RIDES DAY
A chance to tick off that bucket list Warbird aircraft ride. Various aircraft owners will have their aircraft available for rides on Monday April 2nd.

GROUND DISPLAYS
Warbirds Over Wanaka is famous for the variety of ground displays including Wanaka Warhorses. Static aircraft displays include civilian and military aircraft. A number of leading aircraft manufacturers are at Wanaka to show off their new aircraft. Aviation trade stands offer everything from headsets to flying jackets. In 2018 we will have many of New Zealand’s leading flight training organisations on site.

Wanaka is also famous for its stationary engines which line the main entranceway. In 2018 we are hosting a car rally which will include some of the world’s most stunning classic 50 Packard cars.

Children, Veterans, the disabled and elderly are most welcome.
