In April, WarbirdsNews had the opportunity to take part in a couple of photo missions with aviation photographer Moose Peterson and the CAF Dixie Wing. We thought you might enjoy this video filmed with a GoPro video camera attached to the side of the camera ship’s fuselage and another inside the cockpit looking back at Moose. For this photo-shoot, Moose’s camera-ship was a 1943-vintage North American SNJ Texan. Moose’s subject aircraft on the first photo-flight consisted of the Dixie Wing’s FG-1D Corsair, SBD-5 Dauntless and Zero replica. The first mission re-created a Zero attack on the Dauntless, with the Corsair coming in to the rescue. The following day for the second shoot another aircraft joined the script and the rolls reversed. The Corsair simulated an attack on the Kate replica and then the Zero stormed in to shoot down the Corsair. Moose choreographed the shoot well ahead of time in the brief, but during the video you’ll see him reaching down, seeming to grab the side of the plane. He is actually squeezing the “Push to Talk” button to communicate with the other aircraft, giving directions for the next stage in the shoot. Long a Nikon-user, Moose captured his air-to-air photographs with a Nikon D4s and an 80-400VR3 zoom lens using a Lexar 128GB card to store the images.
