The Collings Foundation of Stowe, MA has received a 1944 Fairchild M-62A (PT-19A) s/n 9504AE, AAC 43-31512 requiring restoration. This particular aircraft was one of 477 built under license by the Aeronca Aircraft Corporation of Middletown, Ohio during WWII and delivered to the Army Air Corps on February 6, 1944. This particular PT-19A was assigned to the Primary Pilot Training School at Tuskegee AAF in Tuskegee, Alabama on February 12, 1944.
What makes this particular PT-19A significant is that it is the only known PT-19A surviving that served at Tuskegee as a trainer for the African-American pilots undergoing Primary Training there. The aircraft is basically complete but will need a complete restoration in order to make it airworthy. The Collings Foundation is asking for donations in order to restore this historic aircraft. Please see the Collings Foundation website at www.collingsfoundation.org to make a $100 doantion or call them at 800-568-8924. They have also created a GoFundMe campaign as well, click HERE.
