The world’s only airworthy De Havilland Mosquito, FB.26 KA114, is returning home to Virginia Beach.  Its owner, Jerry Yagen, had sent it to Avspecs Ltd in New Zealand for restoration.

Avspecs gave the Mosquito back its wings, transforming it into a flightworthy warbird once more.  Part of February was spent disassembling the rebuilt fighter-bomber.  It made its way home over sea, via the Pacific Ocean and the Panama Canal.  Andy Hosking and Russell Jenkins of Avspecs traveled ahead to help with its reassembly stateside.

It was slated to arrive in Philadelphia on March 12, should be airborne by April, and will star at the Warbirds over the Beach airshow, hosted by Virginia Beach’s Military Aviation Museum.  The airshow takes place the weekend of May 17.
